A deeper dive

Let’s take a deeper dive

Andrew completed his studies at Vanier College before earning a bachelor's degree in biomedical science at the Université de Montréal. He then pursued a master's degree at the CRCHUM, where he spent two years studying liver disease and gained research experience working with cells, animal models, and patients. He is now completing his Doctorate in Pharmacy, continuing to build on his scientific and healthcare background.

His interest in teaching started in high school, helping classmates prepare for Ministry history and mathematics exams. At Vanier, he tutored French to international students learning the language for the first time and later began tutoring high school mathematics. During his master's degree, he also supervised interns, led research projects, collaborated with pharmaceutical companies, organized journal clubs, and received several bursaries and awards.

Outside of school and tutoring, Andrew enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking with his German Shepherd, fishing, collecting Canadian coins, playing and watching sports, especially soccer and hockey, and having board game nights with friends and family. He also enjoys volunteering and has been involved with the CHUM, AQPA, and CHSLD Vigi DDO.

Why Andrew

Why Andrew?

What Andrew enjoys most about tutoring is being able to pass on knowledge and help someone who may be in the same position he was in a few years ago. Throughout his own education, teachers, tutors, friends, and mentors helped him when he needed it, and being able to return the favour and help another student progress is very rewarding.

His tutoring style is calm, patient, and personalized. Before jumping into a lesson, he takes the time to listen to the student and understand what they are struggling with. Depending on what works best, he may use examples, diagrams, step-by-step explanations, practice problems, or a completely different approach. He wants students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes because that is an important part of learning.

Andrew never gives up on a student. If one approach doesn't work, he tries another. He believes that struggling with a subject doesn't mean a student isn't capable of learning it, it often just means they haven't found the right explanation or approach yet. His goal is always to help students become more confident, independent, and comfortable with the material.
