Tutoring sessions are billed according to the amount of tutoring time provided, at the hourly rate confirmed for the student's tutor.
Payments are generally processed weekly on Sundays for tutoring services already provided during the applicable billing period. The total amount may vary from week to week depending on the number and duration of sessions.
A valid authorized payment method must remain on file while receiving tutoring services. Payment information is entered and processed securely through Star Tutoring's designated payment processor and should never be sent directly to a tutor.
If a payment is declined, returned, or otherwise unsuccessful, Star Tutoring will contact the client. Future sessions may be temporarily suspended while an outstanding balance remains unresolved.
If you believe you have been charged incorrectly, please contact Star Tutoring so the charge can be reviewed and corrected where appropriate.
Tutoring sessions take place at the dates, times, duration, format, and location confirmed by Star Tutoring.
A session may be cancelled or rescheduled without charge when the request is submitted at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time.
A session cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, will generally remain payable at the scheduled session rate because the tutoring time was reserved and made available, subject to applicable law.
Cancellation and rescheduling requests must be submitted through the Manage My Booking page on the Star Tutoring website.
Rescheduling requests are subject to tutor availability and are only confirmed once Star Tutoring approves the new time. A one-time rescheduling does not permanently change the student's regular tutoring schedule.
Additional sessions may also be requested through Manage My Booking and are confirmed only once approved by Star Tutoring.
If a tutor is unable to provide a scheduled session, Star Tutoring may offer another tutor, another time, an online alternative, or another appropriate arrangement.
Tutoring sessions begin and end at their scheduled times.
If a student arrives late, the session will normally still end at the originally scheduled time. Additional time, a refund, or a credit will not normally be provided for time missed because of student lateness.
If a tutor is late, the student will not lose tutoring time. The missed time will either be added to the session, made up at another time, or appropriately credited.
Tutors may have sessions scheduled back-to-back and are not expected to remain after the scheduled session for extended parent discussions.
Students should arrive prepared with any materials needed for the session, including homework, worksheets, textbooks, notebooks, calculators, devices, or teacher instructions.
Parents and students are encouraged to provide upcoming test material, assignments, worksheets, or topics they would like addressed. Tutors will make reasonable efforts to cover requested material, but Star Tutoring cannot guarantee that a particular assignment, chapter, study guide, or amount of material will be completed during a single session.
Tutors may provide optional homework, exercises, study recommendations, or practice materials between sessions.
Star Tutoring does not guarantee any particular grade, exam result, school placement, admission decision, scholarship, academic standing, or other educational outcome.
Star Tutoring provides educational instruction, explanations, guidance, review, and academic support.
Tutors will not knowingly complete examinations, tests, quizzes, graded assignments, take-home assessments, or other work that the student is required to complete independently.
Tutors may explain concepts, provide examples, create similar practice questions, review student work, identify errors, provide feedback, and guide students toward developing their own answers.
Students remain responsible for following the academic-integrity rules of their school, CEGEP, university, or other educational institution.
Families may request a particular Star Tutoring tutor, but the availability of a specific tutor cannot be guaranteed. Tutor matching may consider the student's subject, academic level, language, goals, learning needs, location, tutoring format, schedule, and family preferences.
Star Tutoring will make reasonable efforts to maintain consistency in tutor assignments. However, tutor availability may change due to school schedules, employment, illness, vacation, emergencies, or other circumstances.
If a tutor becomes unavailable, Star Tutoring may offer another suitable tutor or alternative scheduling options.
Different tutors may have different hourly rates. Any applicable rate change will be communicated before sessions with the new tutor begin.
Students participating in online tutoring must have a functioning device and reasonably stable Internet connection. A computer, laptop, or tablet is strongly recommended. Mobile phones are not recommended because smaller screens may make educational materials difficult to view.
Students should ensure that their device is charged, required applications are working, and meeting links are accessible before the scheduled session. Students are encouraged to keep their camera on whenever reasonably possible to improve communication and engagement.
If tutoring time is lost because of a technical issue on the student's side, additional time, a refund, or a credit will not normally be provided.
If significant tutoring time is lost because of a tutor-side technical issue, the missed time will be made up or appropriately credited.
Google Classroom may be used to provide session feedback, homework, worksheets, practice exercises, educational resources, and recommendations between sessions. Students and parents may upload worksheets, homework, questions, or other materials they would like addressed during an upcoming session.
Google Classroom is not an on-demand tutoring or instant-messaging service. Tutors are not expected to continuously monitor or respond to messages between scheduled sessions unless the student's service specifically includes additional between-session support.
Administrative questions regarding scheduling, cancellations, payments, complaints, or tutor changes should be directed to Star Tutoring.
Time used by the tutor at the end of a session to complete the student's Google Classroom update (including feedback, notes, recommended review, and optional homework) is considered part of the scheduled tutoring session.
When tutoring services permanently end, access to the Star Tutoring Google Classroom may be removed. Parents and students should save any materials they wish to retain.
Star Tutoring tutors may use artificial intelligence and other digital educational tools to help prepare or supplement tutoring materials. This may include generating practice questions, worksheets, review activities, examples, study guides, practice examinations, vocabulary activities, reading-comprehension exercises, or alternative explanations of academic concepts.
AI-generated materials are used as educational support tools and may be reviewed, modified, or adapted by the tutor. Tutors remain responsible for the educational guidance they provide.
AI tools will not knowingly be used to complete graded work that a student is required to complete independently.
Tutors must not enter identifying personal information, confidential student information, or other sensitive information into third-party AI tools unless appropriate authorization and privacy safeguards are in place.
Parents and adult students are encouraged to inform Star Tutoring of relevant learning needs, accommodations, school recommendations, or educational goals that may help the tutor provide appropriate support. Star Tutoring will make reasonable efforts to accommodate students within the scope of its tutoring services.
Tutoring is an educational support service and does not replace professional medical, psychological, psychoeducational, speech-language, occupational-therapy, or other specialized assessment or treatment. Star Tutoring does not diagnose learning disabilities, medical conditions, or developmental conditions.
In-person tutoring may take place at a public library, another public study location, the student's home, or another location approved by Star Tutoring. Families and students are responsible for respecting the rules of any third-party tutoring location.
Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation, arrival, departure, and supervision arrangements outside scheduled tutoring time. Tutors cannot be relied upon to provide childcare or continued supervision after the scheduled tutoring session has ended.
For in-home tutoring, families are responsible for providing a reasonably safe and appropriate environment. A parent, guardian, or responsible adult should remain reasonably reachable when tutoring involves a minor.
Tutors may leave or end a session if they reasonably believe an environment presents an immediate safety concern. Unless specifically approved by Star Tutoring, tutors are not responsible for transporting students in personal vehicles.
Students are responsible for their personal belongings and educational materials. In an emergency or immediate safety concern, the tutor may contact the parent or guardian, Star Tutoring, location staff, or emergency services as appropriate.
Students are expected to behave respectfully and participate in a way that allows tutoring to take place safely and productively.
A tutor may pause or end a session if a student's behaviour is seriously disrespectful, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, unsafe, or prevents tutoring from reasonably continuing. Repeated behavioural difficulties may result in adjustments to the tutoring arrangement, a different tutor, a different format or location, parent involvement, or discontinuation of future services.
Abusive, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, violent, or seriously inappropriate conduct toward a tutor or Star Tutoring representative may result in suspension or discontinuation of services, subject to applicable law.
Administrative communication regarding scheduling, cancellations, rescheduling, tutor changes, payments, complaints, registration, and other account matters should be directed to Star Tutoring. Tutors are not required to provide clients with their personal phone numbers, personal email addresses, social-media accounts, or other private contact information.
Tutoring sessions may not be audio-recorded, video-recorded, photographed, screen-recorded, livestreamed, or otherwise recorded without appropriate permission.
Permission for Star Tutoring to use a student's image, photograph, voice, or video for social media, website, advertising, or promotional purposes is optional and separate from registration for tutoring services. Declining promotional media consent will not affect a student's ability to receive tutoring.
Students who are significantly unwell should not attend an in-person tutoring session. Where appropriate and available, an in-person session may be changed to an online session.
Weather conditions, school closures, transportation disruptions, library closures, power outages, Internet outages, or similar circumstances do not automatically cancel a tutoring session.
Where circumstances outside Star Tutoring's reasonable control prevent a session from taking place as planned, Star Tutoring will communicate with the family regarding available alternatives. The regular cancellation policy continues to apply unless Star Tutoring communicates otherwise or applicable law requires otherwise.
Parents, guardians, and adult students may contact Star Tutoring if they wish to permanently discontinue tutoring services. Tutoring services already provided and other amounts properly owing remain payable. Any rights a client has to cancel or terminate services under applicable consumer-protection law continue to apply.
When tutoring services end, access to resources intended for active students, including Google Classroom, may be discontinued.
Star Tutoring may discontinue or decline to schedule future tutoring services where reasonably necessary, including because of unresolved non-payment, serious or repeated inappropriate behaviour, safety concerns, misuse of services, or lack of suitable tutor availability. Clients will not be charged for tutoring services that are not provided.
Star Tutoring collects and uses personal information as reasonably necessary to provide and administer tutoring services, communicate with families, coordinate tutors, process payments, and maintain appropriate educational and administrative records.
Payment information is handled through Star Tutoring's designated payment processor and should not be sent through ordinary email, text message, Google Classroom, or directly to a tutor.
Additional information regarding how personal information is collected, used, communicated, retained, and protected is available in our Privacy Policy.
Parents, guardians, and adult students are responsible for providing accurate registration, contact, scheduling, and tutoring information and for informing Star Tutoring when relevant information changes.
If you have a concern regarding a tutor, tutoring session, billing, scheduling, safety, privacy, or another aspect of the service, please contact Star Tutoring so the matter can be reviewed.
Star Tutoring may update its general policies from time to time. The latest update date will be displayed on this page. Where a change affects an existing client's contractual rights or obligations, Star Tutoring will provide any notice, consent, or rights required by applicable law.
